I heard a story on NPR this morning about a Sudanese boy who was kidnapped as a child, fed millet and sand, and forced into being a child soldier. He miraculously escaped and walked, aimlessly, to a refugee camp in Kenya where, after years, he was chosen to be relocated to the U.S. And now he's on the U.S. Olympic team as a runner. His life went from the worst possible scenario to the best.
Meanwhile, Thursday night here in our fair city two cyclists heading back from a ride were struck head on by a truck, killing them both at the scene. It happened on a road I've ridden down a thousand times. We cannot answer the question as to why certain things happen - why some folks get it all and some folks lose it all in the most tragic way.
God speed, boys, we'll see you on the other side...
