The Chips Always Fall Where They May...

The thing I like about mountain bike racing is that you can't buy success. Not that I'm one who can buy anything but the rich can't just save up for a win. There is no luck of the draw here...

No "Ace's high" will get you to the podium. It's not chance, it's not luck...

It's not an inheretance, it's not years of saving or even about having good credit. It's not about relying on a team or being given a score from a judge...

It's not about being in the right place at the right time; not about "everyone get's a chance." It's not entirely about taking risks. Not about studying, or getting good grades. It's not about being a good ass-kisser; or about being the most passive-aggressive. It's not about earning potential...

Mountain bike racing is about raw, physical ability. Stripped down and bare. Every man, woman, and child for themselves. And if you don't measure up, you don't measure up...

The barest form of human survival: to be the strongest.....to be the fastest. It's simple. it's pure...............

I really need to quit crashing - it's proving very detrimental to my season.

15 minutes before the start of Saturday's Winter Park Series #7 the skies opened in a cold deluge, creating a peanut buttery course strewn with slick tree roots and rocks. 45 degrees at the start line...

Sprinting from the start line and into 4th place I'd crash on the first descent trying to take risks my tires weren't willing to grant me. You crash early in a race and it's like giving the leaders a 1 minute headstart. I'd eventually be the benefactor of a relatively small field and still took 10th place, but it was the ugliest 10th place I've ever been involved in.

And so the stage is now set for this series' final event. I've relinquished my overall lead and am in 2nd place in the Pro Men field with one race to go....
Howl at the moon, yall, howl at the moon...
