So much happened during the weekend at Crankworx it's hard to comprehend. But try, you must.
The view from Saturday afternoon's slopestyle event. A competition, the likes of which I can only compare to the ol' Super Mario Bros. Nintendo game....
Crankworx Slopestyle.............A great place to recover from the morning's cross-country race while knocking back 6 or 7 Red Bulls, wearing a flat-hat, and screaming "holy-F@#&!" all afternoon. The only way I'd ever be seen in this position is if I got there by accident....
These guys do it on purpose...
So while my audio/visual department prepares Sunday's Super-D helmetcam footage, it's a good time to recap Saturday's cross-country race. The big worry for the weekend was the weather. Friday evening's heavy rains soggified all corners of the 24 mile course. I went to bed dreading what I predicted to be a cloudy, soggy day...... I was half right.
I woke up to 34 degree temps, but sunny. By race time it had warmed to a balmy 60 degrees; but the standing water on many parts of the course was simply unavoidable....
It would quickly take its toll on freshly lubed chains, turning them gritty and squeeky. After nearly 2 hours battling the gritty conditions and even grittier competition, I'd secure 12th place in a field of 60+ pros and over 600 ametuers. I still retain the series lead, but with a big bullseye on my back...
Comin' up: The Super-D helmet cam......
